On February 16 and 17, Winona High School Beta Club sent 15 students to the state convention of the National Beta Club in Tupelo, Mississippi.  These students participated in various competitions including acrylic painting, scratch art, creative writing, math, English, social studies, spelling, t-shirt design, oratory, and quiz bowl.  The Quiz Bowl team consisted of Mitchell Palmertree, Vivian Van, Joseph Woods, and Johnny Yang.  The team was able to progress to the second round of competition before being knocked out by Presbyterian Christian School. Alexa Hayward placed third in scratch art and Wade Vail placed third in English.  Wade qualified to participate in the National Convention which will be held June 29th-July 2nd in Nashville, TN.  Beta Club sponsor is Mrs. Matrisciano.

Winona Elementary School students and chaperones attended Broadway's production of The Lion King on Friday, February 27th at The Orpheum in Memphis, TN.  Twenty-nine adults and forty-one students attended the performance.  The group traveled by charter bus and enjoyed dinner at The Spaghetti Warehouse before the show.  We would like to thank Junior Auxiliary of Montgomery and Carroll County for sponsoring several of the students, along with several other anonymous donors.  The students along with the adults, thoroughly enjoyed this educational experience.  The trip was organized by second grade teacher, Amber Austin.
